According to Sky Sports, Sunderland are eyeing Gillingham’s Tom Eaves and Doncaster Rovers’ John Marquis in their pursuit of a striker.

The Black Cats have brought in Jimmy Dunne on loan from Burnley this month, and there should be more incomings before Thursday’s deadline.

Sky Sports report that Celtic ace Lewis Morgan is currently undergoing a medical with the club, and the 22-year-old shouldn’t be the last addition.

On Monday, Sky reported that Sunderland were closing in on Wigan Athletic hitman Will Grigg, but still wanted another striker on top of the Northern Ireland international.

That’s because Sunderland already wanted a striker, and now need another after seeing Josh Maja leave for a move to French side Bordeaux over the weekend.

Now, it’s claimed that Sunderland want one of two League One strikers, with Eaves and Marquis believed to be on the radar for Jack Ross and co.

Eaves, 27, is a huge target man at 6ft 5in tall, and after hitting 18 goals last season, he has notched 14 goals this term, continuing to star in front of goal for Gillingham.

Meanwhile, Doncaster’s Marquis is the League One top scorer with 16 goals, and his record for Donny stands at a staggering 61 goals in 134 games, and is another prototypical target man.

The two players are in red-hot form, and landing one of them alongside Grigg and Morgan would give Sunderland huge momentum for the promotion run-in.
