Report: Sunderland defender Ledger to sign permanently for Notodden

Michael Ledger joining Notodden having never played a game for Sunderland.

Sunderland defender Michael Ledger is on the verge of completing a permanent switch to Norwegian side Notodden, reports the Sunderland Echo.

Ledger has been in discussions with the club and has agreed the move and the announcement of the 20-year-old signing a two-year deal is expected to be made shortly.

This will see the centre-back returning to Norway having impressed during a 14-game loan spell with Viking Stavanger in 2017.

That led to much interest in Ledger last summer with HITC reporting at the time that Mainz were the most high profile suitor, while a Scottish Premiership and League One side were also keen.

According to the Shields Gazette, Viking were hoping to keep the youngster on loan, but he was recalled by the Black Cats last summer to see if he could break into the first team.

That did not materialise and still Ledger has never made his senior debut for the Wearside club and most recently spent time on loan at National League outfit Hartlepool United.
