According to a report in the Shields Gazette, Sunderland could reach an agreement with Porto for striker Moussa Marega in the January transfer window.
Sunderland are keen on Marega, after scouting him over the season so far.
The 25-year-old has scored 10 goals in nine games this term, but he is currently on a season-long loan at Vitoria Guimaraes.
It means that any transfer deal could be problematic, as Sunderland need Vitoria to agree to sending Marega back to Porto.
The Black Cats were worried that they may have to wait until the summer to sign Marega, but the Shields Gazette insist that a deal is still possible.
Sunderland are eager to add another striker in their ranks in January, as they look to strengthen their squad.
Sunderland are currently sat at the foot of the Premier League table, and David Moyes is determined to invest at the next opportunity to inject some quality into his team.
Sunderland are yet to make contact with Porto for Marega, but he is believed to be on Moyes’ wishlist.
