Claude Dielna was simply awful at Sheffield Wednesday – so why on earth would Sunderland consider him a potential target in the summer?

Hold your sides Sheffield Wednesday fans. Because, according to Foot Mercato, one of the most disappointing signings in The Owls recent history could be on his way to a league rival – to replace a £10 million-rated key player no less.
It’s fair to say Sheffield Wednesday would surely bite Sunderland’s hand off if they made a bid for forgotten man Claude Dielna in the summer. The 29-year-old is reportedly nicknamed ‘The Gymnast’ for his graceful style but stumbling around the Hillsborough turf hardly backed up that rather ambitious moniker.
In fact, Dielna featured just 23 times for Wednesday after arriving from Olympiakos in 2014. And he’s spent the last two years on loan away from the Steel City, currently plying his trade in Romania with Dinamo Bucharest.
Yet, Foot Mercato claim Sunderland are tracking his progress as they prepare to bid farewell to Lamine Kone this summer.

The Sun reported recently that the Ivorian was at the centre of a tug-of-war between West Brom and Crystal Palace, with his £10 million price tag ensuring that cash-strapped Sunderland can at least take solace in knowing they could see their budget could be swelled by his exit.
And the recently relegated Black Cats have been linked with a number of proven Championship talents, from Sam Gallagher to Adam Webster, Aaron Mooy to Marc Roberts, as they aim to bounce back at the first time of asking.
Yet, few could argue that Dielna would be an astute addition after he failed so abysmally with Wednesday.
