Sunderland could make a late swoop for the Everton man.
The Black Cats are contemplating a last-minute move for out-of-favour Everton striker Arouna Kone, according to the Mirror, cited in their live transfer blog at 15:09 on January 31st.
David Moyes’ desperation to add a new striker to his ranks seems to be growing by the hour, following another failed bid for Leicester City striker Leonardo Ulloa.
Everton’s Arouna Kone in action
And judging by the report from the Mirror, the Sunderland boss now seems to have turned his attention to Merseyside, with the 33-year-old Ivorian thought to be one of his targets.
The Wearsiders have become hugely reliant on Jermain Defoe this term, and along with he injury sustained by Victor Anichebe, they now look worryingly lightweight in the forward department.

And Kone would seemingly be an ideal acquisition, for the short-term at least.
He is still extremely mobile, despite his age, and he would offer David Moyes another experienced option in his side’s fight against relegation.
He is out-of-favour at Goodison Park, having not made a single start for the Toffees all season, although he has had to endure bad luck with injuries.
And Ronald Koeman would surely not stand in Kone’s way, should Sunderland make a formal approach for the striker.
