Sunderland are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Bradford City star Charlie Wyke.
It has been an incredibly busy summer at the Stadium of Light with new owners and a new manager in place ahead of the club’s first season in the third tier since 1988. They have also brought in more than a full lineup’s worth of signings during the window.
However, the Black Cats still need to strengthen their striker options. Watford youngster Jerome Sinclair has joined on loan for the coming campaign, but they are still short of numbers up top.
But it appears that the Sunderland fans may soon have another striker signing to get excited about, with the Mirror reporting on their live transfer blog (29/07; 20:39) that the Black Cats are closing in on a move for Wyke.
The 25-year-old is a proven goalscorer in League One, having scored 16 times in all competitions for the Bantams last season, and 22 league goals in 56 games during his entire spell at Valley Parade.
If Sunderland are able to capitalise on their current position in the race and do manage to get a deal for Wyke across the line, then it would be little surprise if many thought that their chances of promotion at the first attempt had increased significantly.
