According to a report in the Sunderland Echo, Sunderland are closing in on a deal to sign Yann M’Vila from Rubin Kazan.
M’Vila has been on Sunderland’s wishlist for the entirety of the transfer window so far, but progress has been slow in the chase of the French midfielder.
M’Vila spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light, where his performances caught the eye.
The powerful French midfielder was said to be keen on a move back to Sunderland, but working on a deal has proven difficult.
The change of management at Sunderland threatened to throw the North East side’s transfer plans up in the air, but new boss David Moyes remained interested in M’Vila.
It now seems that Sunderland’s persistence in the deal has paid off, with M’Vila accepting a pay cut to move to Wearside.
M’Vila was on £100,000-per-week at Rubin Kazan, but he has agreed to reduce his salary to move back to the Black Cats.
If M’Vila’s transfer does go through, as expected, he will become Sunderland’s first signing in the January transfer window.
