Sunderland boss Jack Ross is reportedly interested in the Bolton Wanderers youngster this summer.

According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (9/6; page 61), Sunderland boss Jack Ross is interested in signing Bolton youngster Harry Brockbank this summer, but faces Championship competition for his signature.
The Black Cats are preparing for a second season in League One following their agonising play-off final defeat against Charlton Athletic at Wembley.
The Sun reports that Ross is keen on Ayr’s 24-goal striker Lawrence Shankland on a free transfer. And it appears that he is not the only player that Ross wants in a bargain deal.
The Sun on Sunday (9/6; page 61) also suggests that Brockbank is on Sunderland’s wishlist, but Brentford lead the race along with recently-relegated Ipswich Town.

The Sun recently suggested that Brockbank is able to leave Bolton on a free transfer this summer due to their financial situation.
Ross currently has a large squad at his disposal. But perhaps it may not be a huge surprise to see some of their players leave the Stadium of Light this summer following their failure to get promoted at the first time of asking.

While it may not be ideal to lose some key players, the club will reap the benefits of building the team around the younger members of the squad when the Black Cats do get promoted back to the Championship.
And perhaps Brockbank could be one of those youngsters that gets the chance to push one of the more experienced stars towards the exit.
