According to a report in the Shields Gazette, Sunderland boss Chris Coleman has a ‘strong interest’ in Liverpool striker Ben Woodburn now.

Sunderland are looking to add a front man, but Coleman has a limited budget to work with.

The Black Cats do not have masses of funds to spend, meaning loans could be important.

And Coleman feels that Liverpool’s Woodburn is a priority target, with the January window on the verge of opening.

Coleman worked with Woodburn during his time at Wales manager, and was impressed by the youngster’s talents.

Woodburn has only had a limited amount of first-team opportunities at Liverpool this season, and there is a suggestion that Jurgen Klopp could allow the prospect to move out on loan.

Sunderland want Woodburn to end up at the Stadium of Light, but are expected to face fierce competition for the striker’s signature.

If Woodburn does move to Sunderland he will be in competition with the likes of Lewis Grabban and James Vaughan up top.
