According to a report in the Sunderland Echo, Sunderland could yet make a short-term appointment, as they look to find a replacement for Simon Grayson.

Sunderland are still looking for a new manager to take over at the Stadium of Light, but they appear to have some way to go before deciding on Grayson’s successor.

Sunderland are currently at the bottom of the Championship table, and need to ensure they get their next managerial appointment correct.

The Black Cats simply cannot afford to make a mistake again, as they search for a manager who can finally have a positive impact on Wearside.

Sunderland are locked in a relegation battle, with confidence low around the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats have won just once all season, and seem to be struggling to cope with football at Championship level.

Sunderland are currently on a two-week break from competitive action, and are expected to have a new manager at the helm in time for their next Championship match.

Sunderland’s next appointment was expected to be seen as a long-term one, but the latest report suggests that the Black Cats’ desperation could see them put a new manager in charge just until the end of the season, as they look to make sure they are not relegated to League One.
