According to Swedish newspaper Expressen, Sunderland sent a scout to watch AIK Solna striker Alexander Isak earlier today.

Isak, 17, has become one of the world’s hottest young properties having come up through the ranks with hometown club AIK, having hammered 12 goals in 25 games for the Swedish outfit.

6ft 3in centre forward Isak has earned comparisons to his compatriot Zlatan Ibrahimovic, so it’s no great surprise that clubs around Europe are fighting over his signature.

Last week, Expressen reported that Liverpool and Manchester United were in the race for Isak, whilst Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Roma are also believed to be keen.

Today, AIK took on Goteborg away from home, and were on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline as Elias Mar Omarsson bagged the winner for Goteborg.

Now, Expressen report that a number of scouts were in the stands to watch Isak, with elite European sides like Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Ajax and Borussia Dortmund all had scouts at the game to watch the striker – and so did Sunderland.

The Black Cats are in desperate need of another striker, as whilst Jermain Defoe is a proven Premier League goalscorer, he has little support around him, and recent signing Victor Anichebe has yet to offer much.

Sunderland do already have one teenage striker from Sweden in Joel Asoro, but are believed to be keeping an eye on another in Isak, who will have offers from around Europe, but Sunderland may hope that a greater chance of first-team football can win them the race.
