Report: Sunderland and Birmingham want Cameron Jerome; Norwich could sell for £1.5m

Sunderland and Birmingham City are battling at the bottom of the Championship and now over a striker target, according to reports.

According to a report from The Sun, Birmingham and Sunderland are amongst the host of Championship sides battling to sign Norwich City striker Cameron Jerome during the January transfer window.

Jerome has made 15 appearances in the Championship for the Canaries this season, but has struggled to make a major impact, scoring just once while he also bagged a goal in the Carabao Cup win over Swindon back in August.

The Sun reports Jerome has 18 months left on his deal at Carrow Road, and while Norwich have the option to extend that contract by a year, he may be allowed to leave this month for £1.5 million.

The Sun adds that Sunderland, Birmingham, Derby County and Cardiff City are all looking at the forward as they consider options who could bolster their attacking ranks during this window – so perhaps the reported price tag may well appeal to the quartet.

Of course, both Cardiff and Birmingham will hope that they have an advantage over their rivals as they have both previously had Jerome on their books during his career.

The Black Cats and the Blues will undoubtedly be especially keen to win the race for his signature as they desperately try and fight for survival in the second tier. The pair make up the bottom two in the division, so boasting an experienced Championship striker in their ranks could be a massive boost for their respective hopes.

And if it does ultimately come down to the pair for Jerome’s signature at any stage – though Gary Rowett and Neil Warnock may feel that adding Jerome to their ranks may help their automatic-promotion hopes – you would get the impression that it would be a major psychological boost for one if they managed to get a deal across the line.
