German newspaper Bild claim Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville wants to leave the club this month – with Hamburg said to be in talks. However, Marcelo Bielsa wants to keep the pocket-sized star at Elland Road.
Summerville, 20, has sparkled in the Under-23 side for Leeds since his £1.3million move from Feyenoord. Clocking up 24 appearances, Summerville has had a hand in 17 goals – scoring nine and creating eight.
That form – combined with his pace and trickery – has seen him earn eight senior appearances for Leeds this season. BILD, though, reported this week that Summerville is frustrated over a lack of game time in Yorkshire.
Hamburg, vying for promotion from Germany’s second tier, are looking to complete a move for the winger. Talks are ongoing – and the new report states that Summerville wants to go – but Bielsa is looking to keep him.
Summerville eyes Leeds exit: Bielsa right to prevent his departure
Not simply because of Leeds extensive injury problems and their decision to only pursue Brenden Aaronson – a move that looks unlikely. But because Summerville is an enormous talent that has huge potential.
Yes, there are question marks over his attitude. Scuffles in training at Feyenoord, combined with the off tantrum at Leeds, might contribute to the overriding feeling that Summerville could leave this week.
But Leeds need to keep him. Other than Dan James, Raphinha and Jack Harrison, he is the next-best winger. Instead of letting him go, Leeds need to extend his contract beyond the summer of 2023.
