Sporting Lisbon Jovane Cabral is now available for just £13.5 million, according to A Bola; just four months after West Ham United had a bid of exactly that amount turned down by the Primeira Liga outfit.
The Cape Verde international may not be the prolific number nine David Moyes is crying out for, but maybe the Hammers will view this as an opportunity too good to miss.
According to A Bola, the London giants made an offer of £13.5 million for Jovane as recently as September.
At the time, Sporting wanted closer to £18 million.
Flash forward to January, however, and a club who would make Daniel Levy look like a soft touch look ready to compromise; these are strange times indeed.
They are now ready to sell the 22-year-old for a reduced fee.
And if West Ham put another £13.5 million bid on the table, it seems Sporting would give it serious consideration this time around.
Why? Well, maybe Los Leones feel that they are in no position to turn down good money, particularly in an era where revenue is dipping and finances are being stretched to their limits.
Furthermore, it’s not as if Jovane has set the world alight this season either. Yes, he has scored six goals in 12 games in total but his best performances have arguably come in cup competitions.
Jovane has only made three league starts in 2020/21.
A Bola reports that Fulham and Southampton had shown an interest, although neither club made an offer over the summer – unlike West Ham.
The question now, however, is whether West Ham really need him. He is, after all, a right-footed left winger who likes to cut inside from the flank – just like summer signing Said Benrahma.
