The 27-year-old has been strongly linked with a move away but could be forced to stay.

West Ham United are unlikely to allow Sofiane Feghouli to leave the club this month if they ultimately relent and cash in on Dimitri Payet, according to the London Evening Standard.

Feghouli joined the Hammers on a free transfer from Valencia at the start of the summer as Slaven Bilic looked to boost his side in the hope of pushing for a Champions League finish.

However, things have gone disastrously wrong at the London Stadium this term, and the Irons currently find themselves down in 12th in the Premier League table.

Things have been far from rosy on an individual basis for Feghouli either, with the Algerian scoring just twice in 16 appearances, and missing out on a place in Algeria’s Africa Cup of Nations squad.

It had been suggested that the winger could be set to leave the Hammers in January, with Serie A side Roma thought to be very keen on signing the star.

A report last week suggested that the Italian side could abandon that chase, however, if West Ham held out for a large fee rather than sanctioning an initial loan move.

Now, it appears that things might not even get that far. The Standard claim that if, as looks increasingly likely, West Ham decide to cash in on hero-turned-villain Payet, they will not allow Feghouli to also depart.

Feghouli has improved in recent weeks, and was one of the stand-out players in West Ham’s resurgent 3-0 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend.

It appears as though he could yet have a large role to play in the second half of the Hammers’ season, something which would have seemed inconceivable a few months ago.
