According to The Athletic, Marcelo Bielsa could now be sacked by Leeds following today’s embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Tottenham.
What’s the story?
Well, Leeds are in serious trouble. After suffering defeat at Elland Road, Bielsa’s side may end the day in the relegation zone if Burnley beat Crystal Palace.
As a result, Leeds could now make the heartbreaking decision to part ways with the Argentine.
The Athletic believe there have been doubts about keeping Bielsa at Elland Road since the 6-0 defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday, and those feelings have now been heightened after the loss to Tottenham.
Jesse Marsch – who recently left his role at RB Leipzig – is under consideration to replace the 66-year-old in the summer.
Now, those plans could be brought forward, with Leeds now seriously worrying about their Premier League status.
Marsch is understood to be the No.1 choice to replace Bielsa, and the American would be available to join immediately as he’s currently unemployed.
Leeds must stick with Marcelo Bielsa
It sounds crazy to say, but Leeds have to stick with Bielsa.
There isn’t enough time to let Marsch settle in and put his own stamp on the squad, nor will he have the chance to bring his own players in before the season is over.
It would be unfair to expect the 48-year-old to make an immediate impact, as the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Patrick Bamford are still yet to return.
Bielsa – despite his current struggles – knows this squad like the back of his hand, and if anyone can drag Leeds out of their current situation, it’s him.
Simply put, it would be a huge gamble to replace Bielsa at this stage of the season.
