Toby Alderweireld has missed Tottenham Hotspur’s last two fixtures, but a report has suggested when he is expected to return.

Alderweireld’s absence has certainly proven to be a talking points in the last few days. The Belgian returned from his lengthy lay-off due to injury for the replay in the previous round of the competition, helping Spurs comfortably get through at the expense of Newport County.

However, the 28-year-old has not been included in either of the matchday squads for the North London derby against Arsenal or the Champions League last 16 first-leg tie with Juventus in midweek – and that has prompted plenty of discussion amongst the fans on social media with the Mirror reporting that his contract situation with Spurs is attracting interest from other clubs.

Worrying signs for Tottenham fans?
With Alderweireld currently stuck in a contract stand-off with Tottenham, some may be concerned that being involved in the games with Newport County and Rochdale rather than the fixtures with Arsenal and Juventus is a sign that things are not right between the defender and the club.
However, the Mirror suggests that Pochettino deemed Alderweireld to not be fit enough for the derby and trip to Turin, and given the level of opposition that they have been drawn against in the previous round of the FA Cup and the upcoming one, that theory does start to check out slightly as 90 minutes against Newport or Rochdale should prove nowhere near as intensive for a defender as the two fixtures in between.
Though the fact that he was not included in either squad for the games against Arsenal and Juve at all after coming through 90 minutes seemingly unscathed does make Pochettino’s case slightly more difficult to argue.
