Andy Carroll has not played either of West Ham United’s last two matches.

Carroll has not featured for the Irons since their 1-1 draw with Leicester City last month, meaning that he has sat out the defeats to Everton and Manchester City that have left Moyes’ men second bottom in the Premier League three points off safety.

Given that Carroll is still yet to return to training, it seems incredibly unlikely that he will feature in this weekend’s clash with Chelsea at the London Stadium, and it may not be too great an assumption to guess that the Carabao Cup tie against Arsenal just a few days later will also come too soon for the former Liverpool man.

That would therefore, leave the league clash with Newcastle on the 23rd as the only remaining fixture before Christmas, so perhaps that may the game that Moyes has earmarked as being the one for Carroll to potentially make his return.
If he is back fit in time for the Arsenal clash, it surely makes sense for Moyes to rest him or give him a very short run out onto the pitch as there is no question that progress in the cup is almost insignificant when their league position is so precarious. And while Carroll has struggled this term, he is the kind of player who may be able to help drag the team away from danger if he can find some form.
