According to a report from The Sun (31/5; page 57), Christian Eriksen has told Tottenham that he wants to leave as he wishes to play in Spain during the prime of his career.

As shown by Transfermarkt, Eriksen is out of contract with Spurs at the end of next season, and The Sun has suggested that he has rejected a number of offers to extend those terms beyond 2020.

And the report from The Sun (31/5; page 57) has suggested that Eriksen informed the club ahead of the Champions League final that he hopes to finish his career in La Liga and wants to move while he is still in his prime.

It would be a real blow for Mauricio Pochettino’s men to lose the Dane this summer as they look to bounce back from the disappointment of losing the final to Liverpool in Madrid on Saturday.

Eriksen has perhaps not been quite as influential at times this season as he has in previous campaigns, but he has still scored eight goals and contributed 12 assists in the Premier League, while scoring two and providing four assists in the Champions League.

But if his mind is made up that he will not be signing a new contract, then Spurs will clearly need to think about selling him this summer as his value is only going to drop before he is able to leave on a free in a year. However, it will be interesting to see if their defeat this weekend tempts him to reevaluate his plans in the coming days.
