Reports emanating from Italy today suggest that the Foxes are preparing an offer for Fiorentina forward Josip Ilicic in January, according to Italian media outlet CalcioMercato.

The 28-year-old Slovenia international has been in fine form for La Viola this season, and has registered three assists in seven Serie A outings for his club.

A major string to Ilicic’s bow is his versatility, and he is equally proficient in playing anywhere along the front line as he occupying a central midfield role.

The report from CalcioMercato claims that Leicester could open the bidding for Ilicic in January, and with the Slovenian under contract with Fiorentina until 2021, it will surely take a substantial transfer offer to tempt the Italians into selling.

The Foxes spent heavily during the summer transfer window, as Claudio Ranieri brought in six new faces to the King Power Stadium for a total of around £68 million, and reports of their intention to strengthen further will please Leicester fans no end.

The fans could question the wisdom in bringing another forward to the club, however, with other areas of the pitch arguably more in need of attention.

Ranieri’s spending plans will likely be governed by how well they perform between now and January though, and how ambitious the board are.
