Everton are reportedly monitoring Aston Villa left-back Jordan Amavi.

Reports emanating from France suggest that Everton have joined Marseille in the race to sign Aston Villa left-back Jordan Amavi, with a view to the 22-year-old being a long-term replacement for Leighton Baines, as reported by French media outlet La Provence.

Amavi moved to Villa Park during the summer of 2015, for a fee believed to be in the region of £7.7 million, but missed three-quarters of last season due to a serious knee injury.

He has, however, returned to full fitness this term, and has performed well for the Villans throughout their campaign thus far.

And the report from La Provence claims that his impressive showings have led to interest from both Marseille and Everton, although his wage demands could scupper a move to the Ligue 1 outfit.

The Toffees are in a far stronger position financially than Marseille, and with Leighton Baines having just turned 32, Amavi would seem to be a logical long-term replacement for the veteran full-back.

The Frenchman is under contract with Aston Villa until 2020, so the Midlands outfit will still hold a lot of leverage, should any club make a concrete offer for the full-back.
