Sunderland have become too heavily reliant on Jermain Defoe.
The Black Cats are tracking Deportivo La Coruna’s Romanian striker Florin Andone, according to sources and reported via the Chronicle.
David Moyes’ men are currently in the midst of a renaissance, and have managed to drag themselves to within a point of 17th placed West Ham United.
Romania’s Florin Andone in action
The worry for Sunderland fans will be if their key man Jermain Defoe suffers an injury, where will their goals come from?
It will be vitally important for Moyes to add depth to his forward line in January, and Andone could be the ideal target, from both a quality and fiscal perspective.
And with the Chronicle reporting that the Wearsiders are keeping tabs on the Romanian striker, it seems as though the Sunderland boss is moving to rectify the shortage of options he has available to him in forward areas.
The 23-year-old has scored five goals in 14 La Liga appearances since making his £4 million switch to Deportivo in the summer, and has showcased some of the skills that could potentially make him a real threat in the Premier League.
Will Moyes make his move in January? The striker would certainly inject a much needed sense of competition into the Sunderland squad, should a move come to fruition.
