Former Leeds United captain Sol Bamba’s chances of earning a contract at Derby County are over, according to a report in the Derby Telegraph today.

Bamba was released by Leeds United the day after the transfer window shut. The Ivory Coast international was apparently released due to personal reasons, but it soon emerged that Leeds boss Garry Monk was not overly keen on the player after a poor start to the season.

He played with Nigel Pearson at Leicester City, who invited him to try and win a contract with the club during a trial period.

But, as reported by the Derby Telegraph, the suspension of Pearson as Derby manager has seen Bamba lose any chance he had of winning a Rams deal and he is no longer training with the club.

Bamba was club captain at Leeds and was excellent for the club upon his arrival on loan from Palermo. However, his performances soon dipped.

Leeds now have Pontus Jansson and Kyle Bartley forming a solid centre-back pairing.

Derby County currently sit 20th in the Championship table but it is not defenders they should be looking for. They are the lowest scorers in the league with just five goals from 10 games this season.
