Sheffield United are reportedly interested in bringing Everton defender Phil Jagielka back to Bramall Lane.
According to a report from The Sun, Sheffield United are monitoring Phil Jagielka’s situation at Everton closely and could attempt to bring the 36-year-old back to Bramall Lane this summer.
Jagielka is out of contract at Goodison Park this summer and is yet to be offered a new deal by the Toffees. The former England international has been a peripheral figure this season, making just four starts in the Premier League and a further three appearances as a substitute.
It would not be a huge surprise therefore, if he moved on in the coming weeks after 12 years on Merseyside, and it appears that he may be offered the chance to return to familiar surroundings.
The Sun reports that the Blades are monitoring developments regarding the defender’s future, with Chris Wilder weighing up whether to hand Jagielka the chance to stay in the top flight following their promotion out of the Championship.
Jagielka made 287 appearances for Sheffield United before his move to Everton in 2007. And having left following their relegation that year, he may well feel that he has some unfinished business at Bramall Lane.
It will be interesting to find out what Sheffield United fans make of the reports. Their centre-backs are so important to the team going forward, so it would be asking a lot for Jagielka to fit into that style that made Wilder’s men one of the most exciting teams to watch in the Championship.
