Goalkeeper Stephen Henderson will fall to third choice in the pecking order if Mark Warburton brings a new number one to Forest.
Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton will be hot on the trail of goalkeepers once again when the transfer window opens in less than a month’s time.
Warburton made a new number one his priority during the summer transfer window but, after a prolonged pursuit and links with a vast array of shot-stoppers, a deal to sign Adam Federici on loan from Bournemouth was scuppered when he suffered a knee injury on international duty with Australia.
So the Nottingham Post claims that Forest will be scouring the market again in January. In recent weeks, Danish international Frederick Ronnow and Liverpool’s forgotten man, Adam Bogdan, have emerged as potential targets after Forest made approaches during the summer.
But the Post adds that, if one comes in, it is only logical that another leaves to make way. Stephen Henderson has only featured once for Forest since returning from a ruptured Achilles, starting the EFL Cup clash with Chelsea earlier this season, and is stuck behind Jordan Smith in the pecking order.
And the 29-year-old, who has only played 16 times for Forest since moving from Charlton Athletic in the summer of 2016, would be forced further down the hierarchy if the club does finally secure a shot-stopper in the transfer window.
But with Henderson attempting to kick-start his career once again after a lengthy lay-off, would it make more sense for him to seek pastures new in the New Year?
The report suggests that his departure is more than possible – it’s either this or be third choice after all.
