John Jay Moores had been expected to replace Montanier once he completed his takeover at Nottingham Forest but that may now not be the case.

A report in The Irish Sun has suggested that John Jay Moores, the man closing in on a takeover of Nottingham Forest, has decided to stick with current first-team boss Philippe Montanier.

The Sun reported in November that the Frenchman was set to be replaced once the change of ownership at the City Ground was completed, with Sean Dyche and Gianfranco Zola linked as potential targets.

However, this latest report from The Irish Sun has now claimed that Moores – former owner of Major League Baseball side San Diego Padres – has decided to stick with Montanier, who was only appointed at the Championship club in the summer.

Perhaps surprisingly, given the plans that Moores initially had in store for the 52-year-old, the new owners plan to get the current manager’s input during next month’s January transfer window as they look to elevate the side from their current position of 16th in the table, The Irish Sun adds.

While The Irish Sun also suggests that the incoming consortium – who are set to complete a £54m buyout – still have Dyche on their radar, it appears that they are ready to back the former Rennes boss.

However, in a week which has seen the surprising departure of Gary Rowett from Birmingham City that came relatively soon after a takeover at St Andrew’s, Montanier may feel that turning results around on the pitch still may not be enough to convince the owners that he is the man to take them forward in the long-term.
