Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez may have some big plans for the summer if he is given the transfer funds.

Mawson has endured a disappointing season in the sense that the Swans have been relegated to the Championship. However, with the centre-back’s form proving impressive throughout his time in the Premier League, it appears unlikely that he will struggle to find a top flight side willing to try and lure him away from the Liberty Stadium.

And it appears that Newcastle could be one of the sides who make a move during the coming months. The Chronicle suggests that Benitez may be interested in signing the Englishman if he is given a sizeable transfer budget by Mike Ashley this summer.
It will certainly have to be a large transfer kitty if Benitez hopes to be able to sign the 24-year-old during the coming weeks and months. The Sun reported last month that the Manchester United and Tottenham target is set to cost at least £40 million.
If Benitez is given the funds to target a move for Mawson, that would undoubtedly be a sensational statement of intent from the Magpies given his asking price and the sides interested in signing him.

Newcastle may have registered a top-half finish in their first season back at the highest level, but they cannot afford to rest on their laurels after seeing the likes of Swansea, Stoke, West Brom and Southampton – teams that had previously looked established in the Premier League – struggle so badly this term.
Mawson may now have a relegation on his CV, but the promise that he showed suggests that Benitez should certainly push to be able to make a move for the defender this summer.
