Newcastle United and Southampton are among the clubs credited with interest in the Russian, but could be trumped by Manchester United.

Any hope Newcastle United and Southampton may have had of signing Aleksandr Golovin could be dashed by Manchester United.
Golovin’s agent, Alexander Manyakov, suggested to Sport.ru in April that his client had received “specific proposals” from Newcastle and Southampton, and stated the 22-year-old “needs to leave” current employers CKSA Moscow.
He added, however, that “not everything depends on Aleksandr. He has an active contract with CSKA, and while the required amount is about 20 million euros, no one has offered that.”

But according to the Sun, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is “closing in” on Golovin, after watching the “£15-million-rated” midfielder during Russia’s defeat against Austria on Thursday.
The newspaper goes on to reference Newcastle and Southampton’s interest, along with that of Brighton and Arsenal, before adding: “If Mourinho makes his move he will blow his other Premier rivals out of the water.”

Golovin, an attack-minded central midfielder, scored seven goals and set up four in 44 games for CSKA this past season.
The 18-cap Russian was on target in CSKA’s 4-1 defeat to Arsenal in April’s Europa League quarter-final first-leg tie, and assisted his side’s only goal in an identical loss against Manchester United in September’s Champions League group stage fixture.
How big a blow would losing out on Golovin be for Newcastle United / Southampton?
