Everton are being linked with a bizarre move for Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez.

Farhad Moshiri owner of Everton looks on prior to the Premier League match between Everton and Stoke City at Goodison Park on August 12, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Whilst Everton may be searching for a new manager, The Sun are also linking them with an audacious swoop for Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez in January.

Sanchez, 28, has been Arsenal’s star man ever since joining the club from Barcelona back in the summer of 2014, notching 74 goals in 153 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions.

The Chilean international has produced moments of magic for Arsenal, becoming a fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium – but his time in North London could be coming to an end.

Sanchez’s contract with Arsenal expires at the end of the season, and with no sign of agreeing fresh terms, the Gunners must face up to either losing Sanchez for free next summer, or selling him in a cut-price deal in January.

The Sun now report that Everton are preparing to test the water with a bid for Sanchez in January, with majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri understood to be keen on raiding his former club with a £30million swoop.

Sanchez to Everton is surely unfathomable

The Toffees certainly need attacking reinforcements in January having struggled to find the net this season, and Arsenal may be tempted to take £30million for Sanchez before his deal expires, but a move to Goodison Park seems unlikely.

Sanchez, who will be 29 in December, will want to win trophies as he approaches his 30’s, and whilst Everton have lofty ambitions under Moshiri, their terrible start to the season means that Sanchez is unlikely to view the Toffees as a club where he can fulfil his aspirations.

Add in that Everton would almost surely have to break their pay structure to afford Sanchez’s wages, and a deal for the Chilean seems almost impossible, despite the reports of their interest.
