Reports emanating from Portugal today claim that Middlesbrough sent scouts to watch Porto’s 3-0 win over Arouca on Saturday, as reported by Portuguese news outlet A Bola, and quoted via Sport Witness.

Despite a promising start to their Premier League campaign, the Teesside outfit currently find themselves sitting just one place outside the relegation zone, after a disastrous run of results that has seen them pick up just three points from their last seven league outings.

Aitor Karanka has made no secret of his desire to add fire-power to his squad over the winter, with his side’s paltry return of just seven goals in nine Premier League games so far.

The report from A Bola claims that there was a whole host of players representing Porto who are interesting numerous Premier League sides, although they do not mention Middlesbrough as one of them.

It would seem as though an ideal target for Boro would be Porto’s 20-year-old striking sensation Andre Silva.

The Portugal international has been on fire for his club this season, scoring seven goals in eight league outings.

His movement, pace and clinical finishing would be ideally suited to any Premier League side, let alone Middlesbrough.

If Karanka is indeed interested in Silva, he should ensure that he moves quickly to secure the signature of the talented youngster, before some of Europe’s biggest club’s enter the race.
