The Spanish defender has not cemented a place in the Sunderland first-team.
Marseille are said to be considering the signature of Sunderland defender Javier Manquillo. Buzz Sport in France is suggesting that the Ligue 1 side want to bring in a full-back this winter and Manquillo is the option that has now made his way to the top of their list.
The French side had the Spaniard on loan last term and the 22-year-old is still highly-rated at the Stade Velodrome.

He has been struggling at Sunderland since he made the move to the Stadium of Light on loan from Atletico Madrid.
He has played seven times in the Premier League but has not featured since October after some below-par performances.
Marseille are hopeful that the North-East club could end their loan deal with Atletico considering his drop down the pecking order.

It was also recently reported by the Chronicle that Sunderland will have to pay Atletico £9.5 million for his permanent signature if the player plays 25 games for the club and, considering his unconvincing displays for the Black Cats that will be a scenario to avoid.
If Marseille want to take that risk off their hands, Sunderland should jump at the chance.
