According to Leeds Live, Wigan Athletic hope to receive bigger bids for Joe Gelhardt amid talks with Leeds United.
It’s claimed that talks have been positive between Leeds and Wigan, with Gelhardt visiting the club’s Thorp Arch training ground last week.
Leeds haven’t progressed since then though, and there are now fears that Wigan will try and garner interest from other clubs in order to trigger a bidding war.
This report even states that some close to the talks feel Gelhardt may prefer to wait for offers from Everton or Rangers before committing to Leeds.
Leeds have made their pitch to Gelhardt and sold their vision to the teenager, so they have done almost all they can – but they will now hope to avoid another Daniel James situation.
They have had Gelhardt in the building, but are now at the mercy of Wigan and their administrators, as well as the player himself as other offers could arrive.

Gelhardt is a Liverpudlian, meaning a move to Everton could appeal to him geographically, whilst Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is in charge at Rangers, which is a huge draw for anybody from Merseyside.
Neither side have shown the same interest that Leeds have, but with Wigan hoping for more offers, there could be twists and turns yet with teams queuing up to sign exciting the 18-year-old striker.
