The jury is still out on Tottenham Hotspur star Erik Lamela, despite his recent improvement.

Reports emanating from Italy today suggest that Serie A giants AC Milan are lining ip a £22 million January offer for Tottenham winger Erik Lamela, according to Italian media outlet CalcioMercatoWeb.

The 24-year-old Argentine struggled to adapt to life in England following his move to White Hart Lane in 2013, but has slowly begun to show signs that he could realise his potential at Spurs.

He has appeared in all eight of Tottenham’s Premier League games so far this season, chipping in with a goal and an assist.

Questions still remain regarding whether or not he has the physical prowess to be a success in the English game, however, with his defensive responsibility and work-rate often found to be wanting.

The report from CalcioMercatoWeb claims that Milan’s CEO Marco Fassone and general manager Massimo Mirabelli are readying a £22 million bid for the former Roma man in January.

Although the pace and tempo of Serie A may be better suited to the Argentine’s game, it would still be hard to imagine him swapping Champions League football and the potential of Premier League glory for the more pedestrian style football in Italy, playing for a team who have not finished inside the top-six during the last three years.

Much will depend on how important Mauricio Pochettino deems Lamela to be to the squad come January, and whether or not he could find someone who would be an upgrade on the Argentine winger.
