Everton are said to be keen on the Villarreal defender.
Mateo Musacchio in action
Everton have made an enquiry for Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio, according to Calciomercato.
However, it is claimed the Toffees are currently behind AC Milan in the race to sign the Argentine, who favours the Rossoneri.
Musacchio was the subject of a failed bid from Milan a year ago, and the Italian giants are reportedly ready to pounce again with his Villarreal contract entering its final 15 months.
And despite having a release clause of £42.8 million, Tuttomercatoweb reported last month that Musacchio could be available for as little as £13 million as a result.
With Musacchio regarded as one of Europe’s best defenders and Everton said to want up to three new ones this summer, it could be a steal for the Toffees, however unlikely it may be given the player’s alleged preference for Milan.
Yet, Ronald Koeman’s side may just have a trick up their sleeve, with Gerard Deulofeu currently impressing on loan to the Rossoneri.

And offering the Spaniard’s services again next season could convince the Italians to steer clear of Musacchio, who can’t choose Milan if Milan aren’t in the running.
Would Musacchio be a good signing for Everton?
