Tottenham Hotspur seem set for a significant boost with Eric Dier reportedly targeting a new deal with Spurs.
According to a report in the Daily Mirror, Tottenham’s tough stance on Eric Dier’s future could actually lead to the midfielder pursuing a new contract with Spurs.
Dier is clearly a major target for Manchester United this summer, with the Mirror reporting that the Red Devils made a bid shortly after last season concluded, but Tottenham have dug their heels in.
Tottenham’s Eric Dier
According to the Mirror, Spurs are adamant that the England international will not be leaving Mauricio Pochettino’s squad during this window, and Dier appears to be content with Tottenham’s stance.
The Mirror adds that despite agreeing a new deal only last September, Dier may push for another new contract – with Spurs aware that the 23-year-old could earn more than twice as much as the £70,000 a week he earns on his current terms.
The news that Dier will push for a new contract is surely a positive sign for Tottenham – even if it does mean that he manages to secure a more lucrative deal.
In previous years, it would perhaps be fair to say that United offering an eye-watering amount for a Spurs player would only have one outcome, but it now seems that Tottenham are more than capable of keeping the core of their squad together.
