According to Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal made a late move to sign Barcelona left back Junior Firpo on transfer deadline day.

The newspaper cover claims from radio station RAC1, but back the news up themselves whilst adding some more information.

It’s stated that AC Milan wanted Firpo weeks ago, but their loan bid failed as Barcelona weren’t satisfied with the offer.

Arsenal allegedly came forward in the final hours of the window in an effort to land Firpo, but again, Barcelona were unmoved.

Arsenal were in the market for a left back after allowing Sead Kolasinac to join Schalke, with the currently-injured Kieran Tierney needing cover and competition at left back.

Firpo could have fit the bill; the 24-year-old is quick and dangerous going forward, whilst he still has real untapped potential.

He hasn’t quite kicked on since joining Barca for £27.5m in 2019, but he was outstanding for Real Betis previously and may just need a fresh start.

Edu and Mikel Arteta seemingly set their sights on Firpo in a last-gasp raid, but couldn’t get Barcelona to let him go despite his lack of playing time.

Firpo has started just one La Liga game this season, and may need to leave come the end of the season – when Arsenal could yet be interested again.
