Stoke City are said to want to sign Davies, the Derby County defender.
A Daily Mirror report (liveblog entry 13:56) suggests that Derby County will only move for John Terry if Curtis Davies is sold.
Terry is being released by Aston Villa after the Villans’ failed attempt at promotion last season, while Davies is wanted by Gary Rowett – the defender’s former manager – at Stoke City, according to the Daily Mirror.
The report claims that both Frank Lampard – Terry’s friend, former teammate and the new Derby manager – and Mel Morris – the Rams’ owner – are ready to keep Davies as captain.
However, it adds that they may accept offers of around £3 million for the 33-year-old – a year after he signed for £500,000.
Terry – who has lucrative offers from China and the United States, according to the Daily Mirror – was said to earn £60,000 a week at Aston Villa.
And Derby’s difficult financial situation means they could struggle to raise that sort of money organically.
Stoke have already allowed one centre-back, Kevin Wimmer, to leave on loan, while another, Ryan Shawcross has interest from West Ham United, according to the Daily Mail.
