Crystal Palace and Southampton could be about to lock horns again over a young Dundee United player.
Southampton made contact with United about a deal for Scott Banks before the winger joined Palace in January, according to The Daily Record.
And The Courier claims that both clubs and Birmingham City sent scouts to watch the Terrors forward, Logan Chalmers, on Saturday.
Chalmers put in a man-of-the-match performance as Dundee United beat St Mirren at home and was described by his manager, Micky Mellon, as “outstanding”.
But The Courier warns that unlike Banks – who was sold for just £270,000, according to Transfermarkt – the 20-year-old will not be allowed to leave on the cheap should Crystal Palace, Southampton and co follow up their interest with a bid.
Banks had entered the final year of his contract at Tannadice, whereas Chalmers’ deal is due to run out at the end of next season.
The former player has caught the eye for Crystal Palace’s Under-23s of late.
In contrast, another Dundee United product, Kieran Freeman, failed to make an impact at Southampton and returned to the Terrors earlier this year.
