Report suggests Connor Goldson wants move as Rangers prepare new bid

Glasgow Rangers have reportedly received a boost in their pursuit of Connor Goldson with the player seemingly keen on an Ibrox switch

According to a report from The Argus, Rangers are set to make a new bid for Connor Goldson after seeing their first offer rejected – while the player himself is said to find the chance to make the move to Ibrox irresistible.

The Argus reports that Rangers have identified the 25-year-old as a key target as Steven Gerrard continues to conduct an overhaul of his squad after the Gers finished third in the Scottish Premiership this season.

However, Brighton rejected their first offer as it fell well short of their valuation, The Argus adds. Nevertheless, the Light Blues are planning to come back with a fresh bid for the defender who has made a handful of Premier League appearances this past season.

The Argus reports that the Liverpool-supporting centre-back would relish the opportunity to make the switch to Ibrox, with the club’s stature and Gerrard’s presence both suggested as reasons why he would be keen to consider swapping Brighton for Rangers.

It is undoubtedly a boost for the Gers that Goldson is apparently keen to join the club this summer. Given his role as Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk’s first understudy – he has been a regular on Chris Hughton’s bench this term – he must feel that he is within touching distance of being a regular starter in the Premier League.

So the fact that he seems ready to trade that for a chance to play for Rangers should be a huge incentive for the Gers to make sure that they make the kind of bid that leaves Brighton willing to allow Goldson to follow in Jamie Murphy’s footsteps by heading to Ibrox.
