The Frenchman was reportedly on the shortlist before Remi Garde was appointed.
Aston Villa are currently on the hunt for yet another new manager.
Last season the club got through Tim Sherwood and Remi Garde – with Eric Black holding the fort until the end of the campaign.
Garde’s appointment was particularly surprising, given his lack of Premier League experience and being out of the coaching game for some time.
But it was clear that Villa were after a French-speaker to help bridge the gap with the many Francophones who arrived at the club in the summer.
One other name that was mentioned was Saint-Etienne boss Christophe Galtier.
Just before Garde’s appointment it was reported by The Sun that Galtier was another option on the Villa shortlist.
Whilst it never happened, a report in But! this week claims Galtier wanted the job.
The report suggests relations between Galtier and his Saint-Etienne CEO Roland Romeyer have soured recently – with denying Galtier the chance to take the Villa job the starting point of their apparent friction.
Villa are of course on the hunt for a new manager once again and perhaps Galtier would be interested again.
However, the club are looking for a manager with Championship experience to get them back to the Premier League as soon as possible.
But it seems Galtier would have loved the chance to manage at Villa Park.
