There’s a glimmer of hope that Christian Eriksen could stay at Tottenham.

According to a new report from Spanish newspaper AS, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen is beginning to re-think his decision to leave the club.

Eriksen, 26, suggested last week that he may be ready for a new challenge after six years with Tottenham, with his bombshell coming just days after losing the Champions League final.

The Dane is bound to be on the radars of clubs around Europe, with Real Madrid the main contender even after signing Chelsea’s Eden Hazard last week.

However, AS now report that Real Madrid are focusing on Manchester United’s Paul Pogba instead, and have scrapped a verbal contract agreement with Eriksen.

It’s added that Eriksen is now considering a shock U-turn, feeling that he may now need to think about the new contract on offer at Tottenham in a move which would leave the Spurs fanbase stunned.

Eriksen has a year left on his deal, and he’d surely expect a hefty wage rise in order to stay with the club, with a long-term stay at Tottenham still seeming somewhat unlikely.

Fans will be sceptical of the report, especially as it comes just a week after Eriksen signalled his intention to go. The summer transfer window is a long, drawn-out affair, and changing his mind within days would be a shock.

Still, fans may have hope that Eriksen really is about to pull a stunning U-turn and stay with Spurs, but it may well depend on Pogba’s Manchester United future.
