Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong has been attracting attention from the likes of Southampton, but the Hoops are determined to keep hold of him.

According to a report from the Daily Record, Celtic have made an excellent contract offer to Stuart Armstrong as they try to keep him from pursuing a move away from Parkhead.

Armstrong has now entered the final year of his contract with the Hoops and the Daily Record reports that Southampton and Brighton and Hove Albion are both interested in handing the midfielder the chance to move to the Premier League.

Stuart Armstrong of Celtic takes on Ryan Jack of Aberdeen during the William Hill Scottish Cup Final between Aberdeen and Celtic at Hampden Park on May 27, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

However, the Record now adds that, as things currently stand, the 25-year-old has one option on the table with Celtic making an offer – which the Record describes as excellent – while none of the interested sides are thought to have made a move at this stage.

With the news that the Saints or the Seagulls are reportedly yet to make an approach for the Scotland international, it would hardly be a surprise if Armstrong felt that staying put was definitely the best option for him.

The former Dundee United man played the football of his life for the Bhoys last season, and it appears that Brendan Rodgers knows exactly how to get the best out of him.

Meanwhile, if neither of the Premier League sides have made a move at this stage then that would perhaps hint that Armstrong would potentially enjoy a much more peripheral role in either squad if he did move.
