Celtic striker Moussa Dembele limped off during the Hoops’ Scottish Cup semi-final victory over Rangers at Hampden Park.
Celtic’s Moussa Dembele
A report in The Scottish Sun has suggested that Moussa Dembele will miss the rest of the season after limping off during the first-half of Celtic’s Scottish Cup semi-final win over Rangers at Hampden Park.
The 20-year-old was brought off around the half-hour mark after appearing to sustain a hamstring injury while chasing a ball, and had to watch from the sidelines as the Hoops booked their place in the final with a 2-0 win over the Gers.
The Scottish Sun is now reporting that after undergoing scans, it has been ruled that the striker will miss the next five weeks and a gamble will not be taken on his fitness for the final at the end of May.
The Scottish Sun adds that Celtic are keen to make sure that he is ready for the Champions League qualifiers in July, seemingly paving the way for Leigh Griffiths to become the focal point of the side once again in the meantime.
Rangers’ David Bates in action with Celtic’s Moussa Dembele
With the Scottish Premiership title already wrapped up, and with Griffiths being a more than capable understudy – in fact, it is probably unfair to label him in such a way – most Celtic fans will probably accept that resting Dembele is a wise decision if it ensures that he will be raring to go for the new season.
Having a player of his quality in the ranks is a must as Brendan Rodgers’ men try to navigate their way through the tricky preliminary rounds.
