Report suggests Arsenal need Champions League football to sign Samuel Umtiti

Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti is reportedly on the radar of Arsenal.

Arsenal will need to qualify for the Champions League next season to stand a chance of signing Samuel Umtiti from Barcelona in the summer transfer window, according to a report in The Mirror.

It has been reported that Arsenal have a tight budget for the summer, and they need to get the Champions League money from next season to sign Umtiti, who could cost £50 million.

The 25-year-old central defender has lost his place in the Barcelona starting lineup after injury problems, and Barcelona could reportedly sell him as they chase Matthijs de Ligt.

The Gunners have failed to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season, but Unai Emery’s side will qualify for the 2019-20 Champions League campaign if they win the Europa League final against Chelsea in Baku this month.

Good signing for Arsenal

Umtiti is a very good central defender, and the 25-year-old will be a very good signing for Arsenal.

The former Lyon star is in mid-20s, and the France international can only get better in the coming years.
