Premier League pair Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers could find themselves in a transfer triangle with Serie A strugglers AC Milan.
Arsenal could inadvertently help Wolverhampton Wanderers sign Franck Kessie in January with Gazzetta dello Sport claiming that AC Milan have identified Gunners outcast Mo Elneny as a replacement for the Ivory Coast international.
It is no secret that Wolves have wanted Kessie for some time.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side offered £23 million for the former Atalanta powerhouse in August, plus a £50,000-a-week contract.
It was too late for any in-depth negotiations, however, and the deal was shelved. But, according to Gazetta, Milan already have a plan in place if Wolves come calling for Kessie again.
Elneny has caught the eye of the struggling Serie A giants with a potential £13 million deal on the cards in the winter. The Egyptian international isn’t exactly loving life on loan at Besiktas and he’d surely welcome a move to the San Siro with Ivan Gazidis, former Arsenal chief executive, likely to be heavily involved in the transfer.
Elneny is a combative, deep-lying midfielder and while he doesn’t quite possess the ferocious force of Kessie, he could step into his shoes in the centre of the park without too much difficulty.
So this is a deal that could suit everyone. Wolves finally get their long-term target, Arsenal make a profit on an ill-fitting player while Milan can bring in a ready-made replacement for a man whose form has dipped alarmingly in recent weeks.
