The Premier League side are hoping to land the Toffees midfielder.

A report in the Daily Mirror has claimed that Crystal Palace may have a slight advantage over any of their rivals for James McCarthy’s signature, and suggests that Everton may be prepared to lower the asking price to allow a move to take place.

The Mirror states that the Everton midfielder is being pursued by both the Eagles and Championship side Newcastle, but suggests that his friendship with Palace midfielder James McArthur – with whom, he played alongside for both Hamilton Academical and Wigan Athletic – could be used to help Alan Pardew’s men get a deal across the line.

And if they had any reservations about the asking price, it appears that there could be some room for negotiation between the two clubs.

The Mirror reports that the Toffees currently want £20m for the Republic of Ireland international, but could be willing to lower that price if they manage to get a replacement in before the window shuts on Wednesday.

Although there is plenty of optimism on Tyneside currently, it would not be difficult to understand if McCarthy was in favour of a switch to Palace over Newcastle.

As well as being given the opportunity to work alongside a good friend, a switch to Selhurst Park would allow the 25-year-old to stay in the Premier League which he will surely be looking to do as he enters what should be the prime years of his career.
