Former Liverpool starlet Adam Phillips looks set to sign for Norwich City after a succesful trial period despite interest from Watford and West Ham.

Norwich City appointed Stuart Webber as their new Director of Football to give the club a much-needed boost in the transfer market. As the highly-regarded transfer guru admitted when arriving at Carrow Road, The Canaries have wasted far too much money on underperforming players in recent seasons.

This is certainly in stark contrast to the work Webber did at Huddersfield Town, guiding the unfancied Terriers into the Premier League with a raft of bargain buys and short-term loans.

And, according to the Liverpool Echo, his influence is really being felt behind the scenes at Norwich. The report claims that the Championship side have beaten Premier League opposition in Watford and West Ham to land 19-year-old midfielder Adam Phillips.

The highly-rated teenager was released by Liverpool earlier in the summer and it is understood that Webber, a former scout at Anfield, was crucial in Norwich pulling off an impressive coup.

Phillips, likened to Steven Gerrard when making his name in Liverpool’s illustrious academy, was highly rated by former manager Brendan Rodgers, who included the then-16-year-old on the 2014 pre-season tour of the USA.

However, a series of back injuries stalled Phillips’ progress, meaning he fell behind the likes of Ovie Ejaria and Cameron Brannagan, blocking his route to the first team.

Yet, the attack minded teenager, who has spent the last few weeks on trial at Norwich, could have a much better chance of senior action at Carrow Road.

The club’s new manager, Daniel Farke, made his name in charge of Borussia Dortmund’s reserves, meaning he knows how to get the best out of young players and surely won’t be unwilling to give them an opportunity.
