Report: Stuart Armstrong wants Celtic exit, several enquiries made

Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong wants to leave Parkhead this summer, and Southampton and Fulham have reportedly already made enquiries.

According to a report from the Daily Record, Stuart Armstrong has told Celtic that he wishes to leave Parkhead this summer while several English sides, including Southampton and Crystal Palace, have wasted little time to register an interest in the 26-year-old.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed a stunning spell with the Hoops since Brendan Rodgers was appointed, particularly during his first season in the Scottish Premiership when Armstrong went on to score 17 goals in all competitions.

However, there has seemingly been a question mark over his future ever since he started to find his best form during Rodgers’ first campaign with the club. And now, it appears that a move is potentially imminent.

The Record reports that Armstrong has told Celtic that he will be looking to leave this summer, and Southampton, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Fulham have all made initial enquiries regarding a potential move for the former Dundee United man.

While losing Armstrong would be a blow to the depth within Celtic’s midfield, it could certainly be argued that letting him go may have a positive impact as Rodgers will no longer have to deal with that speculation.

And with the Scotland international arguably playing a much less prominent role this past season, it would appear that Celtic should be able to cope without having Armstrong in their ranks should he seal a move to the Premier League ahead of next season.
