Newcastle United never showed a serious interest in Ignatius Ganago even though some in the Cameroon camp had been informed that the Ligue 1 striker was on his way to the Premier League, as reported by The Athletic.
It’s difficult to know just what to believe these days.
Are Newcastle really in for, well, let’s call him ‘Player X’?
Or is ‘Player X’s’ agent merely using Newcastle to drum up interest in his client? Is ‘Player X’s’ agent offering him to the so-called Richest Club in the World in the hope of a substantial pay day?
Those are the sort of questions Newcastle fans are being forced to consider during one of the most hectic periods in the club’s modern history. In the end, five new players arrived. Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn, Bruno Guimaraes, Chris Wood and Matt Targett.
But so many more were linked. We know for a fact that Newcastle made approaches for Diego Carlos, Sven Botman, Sassuolo full-back Rogerio.
But were links with Ousmane Dembele, Nabil Fekir, Aaron Ramsey and co anything more than baseless speculation?
It really is a minefield.
Did Newcastle United need another striker?
L’Equipe reported a fortnight ago that Newcastle had opened talks with Ignatius Ganago, a 22-year-old Cameroon international who plies his trade for Ligue 1 high-flyers RC Lens.
According to The Athletic, the Cameroon camp were informed, during the African Cup of Nations, that Newcastle had seen a bid ‘accepted’ for Ganago. Not only was this wide of the mark, Newcastle never even made an approach for the one-time OGC Nice youngster.
Unfortunately for Newcastle supporters, this is the world they’re now living in. This is the price you pay for untold riches. A world of misinformation, confusion and uncertainty.
