Ligue 1 side Strasbourg are reportedly in talks to sign Aston Villa defender Frederic Guilbert, who has already been spotted in France.

According to Foot Mercato, Strasbourg are working on signing the Villa full-back on the final day of the transfer window.

Guilbert spent half of last season with Les Coureurs, and now the French side are working on signing the defender again.

It is unclear if Strasbourg want to sign Guilbert on loan or permanent deal. However, early suggestions seem to indicate that it will be another temporary switch to the French side.

Multiple Ligue 1 sides are interested in Guilbert as reported by Sky Sports News.

Despite impressing in France last season, Dean Smith has seemingly given the green light for the 26-year-old defender to depart once again for his home country.

Guilbert is one of Villa’s highest-paid defenders, with the right-back earning a reported £40,000-a-week according to figures from Spotrac. But with Matty Cash impressing in the role last season, the Frenchman will be nothing but a backup.

Moreover, a transfer could happen sooner rather than later. Guilbert was pictured in France just hours after Villa’s 1-1 draw against Brentford last weekend. With under 12 hours of the window left to go, a transfer seems imminent for the French defender.
